2008 AIB & AIBS
Dubai Study Tour
1 - 8 November 2008
The Australian
Institute of Building (AIB)
and the Australian
Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS)
are pleased to advise members of a proposed study tour to Dubai
over 1-8 November 2008. This is an important opportunity for building
professionals to review innovative building techniques and assessment
processes.
The AIB - AIBS Dubai Study Tour, sponsored by OneSteel reinforcing,
will review the design, engineering, building and certification
processes that support the construction of some of the most unique
high-rise and broad-acre developments in the world. Highlights of
the AIB - AIBS Dubai Study Tour may include:
Tower — Burj Dubai, The
Worlds Tallest Building
Burj Dubai is a skyscraper currently under construction in Dubai,
United Arab Emirates. When it is completed in late 2008, it is
predicted to be the tallest man-made structure in the world, as
well as the tallest building by any measure. Originally proposed
as a virtual clone of the 560m Grollo Tower proposal for Melbourne
(a proposal scrapped in 2001) the tower was redesigned with a
design height of 705m. However, with a design that allows for
further height increases, it is expected that the completed structure
will be greater than 900m tall so as to ensure the title of the
worlds tallest tower.
Waterfront – The Palm Islands
The Palm Islands, also referred to as The Palm Dubai and The Palms,
are the world’s three largest man-made islands and are being
built on the coast of the emirate of Dubai. The project will increase
Dubai’s shoreline by 120km and create a large number of
residential, leisure, and entertainment areas. The two Dubai islands,
The Palm Jumeirah and The Palm Jebel Ali, will be built in the
shape of date palm trees and will support more than 60 luxury
hotels, 4,000 exclusive residential villas, 1,000 unique water
homes, 5,000 shoreline apartments, marinas, water theme parks,
restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas, cinemas
and various dive sites.
This collaborative effort between AIB and AIBS provides a unique
experience to review projects of international significance in an
environment that will allow you to build and strengthen your relationships
with colleagues in the building and construction industry.
The estimated cost is AUD$6,600 on a double
/ twin share basis and AUD7,950 for a single incl. airfares (ex
Brisbane / Melbourne / Sydney) and accomodation. The 2008 AIB
AIBS Dubai Study Tour, sponsored by OneSteel reinforcing,
is sure to be a great leisure and learning opportunity. For
more information contact the AIB national office via email at events@aib.org.au
