AIB National Council
Responsibility for the overall management of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) lies with the National Council. The Council must meet at least once per year although two and sometimes three meetings are not uncommon.
Other Council responsibilities include proposed changes to the
Royal Charter and / or by-laws,
acquisitions and disposal of property, expulsion of members, the
AIB Medal, Honorary Fellowship
and Life Fellowship.
Most management matters are delegated by the Council to the
Board of Management although the Chief
Executive Officer also has delegated responsibility for day-to-day
administration.
The AIB National Council includes the Institutes Office Bearers, Past National Presidents (who elect to serve), the President of each AIB Chapter and a number of Chapter representatives, with the precise number of the latter to be prescribed by the Council.
Councilors server for a period of one year, essentially from one Annual General Meeting to the next. However, many Councilors serve for a number of consecutive years as they may be serving for several terms as a Chapter President or have served as a Past National President thus eligible for reappointment to Council.
