AIB-IGL Industry & Government Liaison C'tee
Members of the Australian Institute of Building, through the AIB-IGL
Industry & Government Liaison Committee, make a positive
contribution to affecting changes to the commercial, technical and
regulatory environment in which building professionals work.
Members support the development of submissions on a range of matters
at a national level that are progressed via submissions to Parliamentary
enquiries, Productivity Commission inquiries or direct lobbying
to government departments, Ministers and other stakeholders within
the building and construction industry. Current projects include:
The AIB-IGL Industry & Government Liaison Committee
also coordinates the building profession's contribution to the development
of building policy and building codes. This is managed via the following
technical subcommittees:
AIB has an accomplished history in effecting change to the regulatory and commercial environment in which the building and construction industry operates. AIB members have the opportunity to contribute to the national policy debate through their participation in the AIB-IGL Industry and government liaison committee and its technical subcommittees. The responsibilities of AIB-IGL included the following:
- Lobbying the Commonwealth Government for the adoption of AIB
policies;
- Liaising with other industry bodies at a national level with
the aim of strengthening AIB's position on relevant issues;
- Forming and maintaining alliances with kindred
organisations, as appropriate for long or short term goals;
- Improving the AIB's profile by disseminating its position on
relevant issues to stakeholders;
- Gaining the confidence of governments and regulators in AIB
member's service to society;
- Striving to ensure that the AIB is among the first organisations
that the Commonwealth Government consult when contemplating new
measures.
Naturally the location of the AIB national office at Construction
House in Canberra assists,in progressing AIB's policy agenda.
The current committee Chair is Mr Greg McLean
FAIB, a Sydney-based construction lawyer. The committee
secretariat is provided by the AIB national office and the AIB Chief
Executive Officer, Troy Williams,
is an experienced lobbyist who works with committee members to progress
the Institute's agenda.
