Building codes and standards development

For more than fifty years the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) has played a leading and influential role in the development of the codes and standards which are used in the creation of the built environment.

AIB is one of the largest participants in the development of Australian Standards with the Institute's members representing the building profession on a range of committees responsible for the development of contract documents, product specifications, installation standards and certification practice.  For more information on AIB's role in developing Australian Standards visit:

Within Australia the Institute's members contribute to the development of the Building Code of Australia (BCA). At a Chapter level the Institute's members work with State and Territory Governments to ensure that a supporting regulatory framework is in place to mandate compliance with the BCA.

Members wishing to participate in the development of Australian Standards should contact the AIB national office at building.codes@aib.org.au
