Foundation Awards & Prizes

The AIB Research & Education Foundation provides funding for a number of awards and prizes associated with excellence in either the management of building firms or in the profession of teaching building disciplines.  These awards include:

Fred Wilson Memorial Prize
Awarded in honour of the Institute's first national President, the Fred Wilson memorial prize is awarded annually to the best AIB member authored paper on a building-related subject. The award comprises a cash prize and a framed certificate.

Sir Manuel Hornibrook Travel Grant

The Institute's second national President, and substantial benefactor provided funds for the Sir Manuel Hornibrook Travel Grant.  Successful applicants must submit an application that will produce a thesis on the development of the profession overseas.

FO Watts Prize
This prize is a result of an ongoing donation from the family of Mr Fred Watts, national AIB President between 1966-1968. The cash prize is awarded to the best final year student in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Building & Construction Management) at RMIT.

Each award and prize has a detailed selection criteria with the recipient being selected by a committee comprising one or more Foundation Trustees in addition to leading figures in the building profession.  Invitations for nominations are published in theConstruct magazine published by the Australian Institute of Building (AIB).

Individuals and organisations wishing to provide funds for a grant or prize should contact the Executive Officer, Troy Williams, to discuss the appropriate way to support the Foundation.
