Membership Grades
Membership of the Australian
Institute of Building (AIB) provides you with a range of benefits
to facilitate your career development. From professional
recognition, the opportunity to enhance your qualifications
and ability to learn from other building professionals, AIB membership
has been recognised as a distinguishing factor that separates Chartered
Building Professionals from other employees in the building
industry. Membership benefits include:

reserved for persons who have recently obtained a qualification

at AQF levelly 5 or 6, (e.g. diploma or equivalent)
or assessment of competence at this level. |

Employment in the
building industry for at least 150 working days in any capacity
(in addition to any work experience required as part of an academic
course), |

Licentiate |

An academic qualification
at AQF level 4, (e.g. certificate IV or trade qualification)
or assessment of competence at this level. |

Employment in the
building industry for at least 75 working days in any capacity
(in addition to any work experience required as part of an academic

This grade is
reserved for persons who are active within the building industry
professional level but who do not hold the qualifications
appropriate for a Corporate Member. It includes professional
groups such as lawyers, accountants and academics who are
not directly employed by |

Student |

This grade is
reserved for persons who are undertaking a course relevant
to the building and construction industry |
All members being admitted
to the grade of Fellow, Member, Associate Member or Licentiate
must be of good standing, with the assessment criteria being
an established a reputation for high ethical standards and high
quality of work not have been convicted of an offence involving
fraud or dishonesty.
Members of the New
Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB)
are generally eligible to apply for AIB membership and be admitted
at their NZIOB grade. For more information visit the membership

These membership grades
provide a structure for your peers and prospective employers to
identify you as a building professional whose experience and qualifications
have been subject to independent assessment.
