All applications of AIB Membership are to be submitted via the On-line Application Portal below.

Please note the following documents are required to be submitted for an Australian Corporate Membership Application:

1. Certified copies of your degrees and memberships.
2. A current copy of your Curriculum Vitae that details your qualifications, experience and employment history.
3. Two professional references (for more information about references available at the bottom of this page).

The following documents are required to be submitted for an Australian Associate or Australian Affiliate Application:

1. Certified copies of your degrees and memberships.
2. A current copy of your Curriculum Vitae that details your qualifications, experience and employment history.

Please note the following documents are required to be submitted for an Overseas Corporate Membership Application:

1. Certified copies of your degrees and memberships.
2. A current copy of your Curriculum Vitae that details your qualifications, experience and employment history.

4.  Organisational Chart and where you sit on that chart.
5. Project Portfolio (to be discussed at Professional Interview).

APPLICATION - CURRICULUM VITAE:

All AIB Membership Applications must include an updated and detailed Curriculum Vitae that clearly maps out the applicant’s academic and industry experience. Details of industry experience in the CV must include positions held and responsibilities undertaken during the applicant’s career to date. Ideally the CV should be clear on the competencies an applicant has achieved that mirror the competencies required for all Membership Grades.

APPLICATION - PROFESSIONAL INTERVIEW:

Depending on the grade of membership sought some applicants will be required to undergo a Professional Interview.

This Professional Interview is a combination:

• A desk audit of the application document which may require further material,
• An independent assessment of an applicants competency levels,
• A Face to Face Professional Interview with a panel of Senior AIB Committee Members.

Please note: If your Australian Membership Application requires a Professional Interview this can take up to six weeks to arrange with our Local Chapter Committee Panel.

Please note: If your Overseas Membership Application requires a Professional Interview this can take up to six months to arrange with our International Chapter Committee Panel.

APPLICATION - PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES:

The AIB requires that all applicants for admission as either a Corporate Member (MAIB) or Fellow Member (FAIB) supply Two Professional References in support of their application. These should specifically set out and provide examples that:

• The applicant has a reputation for superior ethical standards and a high quality of work; and
• The applicant has held the positions described in their resume.

 The references should be provided by an employer and / or work colleagues of the applicant who are fully conversant with the expertise of the applicant. All references must be signed and dated within 6 months prior to submitting an application for membership or an application to upgrade membership. Ideally references should be provided by (in order of preference):

1. A Member | Fellow of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB);

2. A Member | Fellow of either the New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB) or the UK Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB-UK);

3. A Member | Fellow of either the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) or the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS); or

4. A Member | Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Engineers Australia (IEAust), the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (IAMA) or the the (Royal) Australian Institute of Architects (AIA).
