Membership Grades

Membership of the AIB is structured to provide entry points to professional membership for individuals with a range of academic qualifications and experience.

 

AFFILIATE - Join Now

This grade is reserved for persons who are active within the building industry professional level but who do not hold the qualifications appropriate for an Associate or Member grade. An affiliate member may include professionals such as lawyers, accountants and academics who are not directly employed in the building industry. Entry to this level of membership does not require a professional review process.

 

STUDENT - Join Now

The grade of student is open to any individual enrolled in a higher education (degree) or TAFE (Certificate/Diploma) course in the discipline of building or related building discipline. There are no experience or prior academic qualification requirements for this grade. Entry to this level of membership does not require a professional review process.

 

ASSOCIATE - Join Now

Associate membership has various entry levels, all of which are a step away from full membership. The AIB’s focus for these grades is to provide individual pathways to full membership and ultimately Chartered Status. This grade is a catch all grade which recognises certificate IV level, diploma and degrees from related built environment degrees (e.g. Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying). Entry to this level of membership does not require a professional review process.

 

MEMBER - Join Now

Full membership of the AIB, sometimes referred to as Corporate Membership is open to individuals who have an academic qualification at AQF 8 (e.g. four year degree) in a building discipline. Eligibility of full AIB membership also requires an applicant to demonstrate employment, for a minimum of 3 years in a construction position where they have exercised judgment associated with the management of an activity or enterprise under occasional direction or supervision. Individuals who obtain entry to the grade of MAIB are permitted to use the title “Chartered Building Professional™”. Entry to this level of membership does require a professional review process.

 

FELLOW

The grade of Fellow is reserved for full members who have demonstrated a lengthy commitment and senior practitioner experience. Applications for Fellow membership still require the completion of an application form and the provision of an updated CV. Entry to this level of membership does require a professional review process
