1. Professional recognition
AIB's grades of membership provide a structure for your peers and prospective employers to
identify you as a Chartered Building Professional whose experience and qualifications have
been subject to independent assessment. Through the use of the AIB membership post
nominal MAIB or FAIB, you have a ready means to reinforce your professionalism. In addition, as an MAIB or FAIB, you are permitted by trademark law to use the title "Chartered Building
Professional". For more than sixty years these have been a recognised means of distinguishing
those with a commitment to their own professionalism and well-being of the entire building profession.
2. Advocacy to protect the interests of the profession
Members have the opportunity to influence government policy through the AIB Industry and
Government Liaison Committee and provide direction in the AIB's work supporting policy
development through the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF). Extensive
opportunities exist to participate in policy development at a local level through participation in
your local AIB Chapter.
3. Building professional relationships
Networks are invaluable in industry and AIB membership helps you to establish your network
by providing opportunities to meet with your peers and senior members of the building
profession. This is your opportunity to be part of the latest developments in the industry and to
network with the people who are making them happen. The Institute's network is also
working to provide student members with assistance in finding work experience.
4. Member rates for Online and Face-to-Face CPD
AIB members receive discounted rates to CPD courses via AIB CPD Online. All the
programs on offer have been individually reviewed and assessed to the highest standard of
what is expected by the AIB in continuing professional development, whilst keeping in mind
the need for any program to be topical and easy to access. AIB members are strongly
encouraged to maintain a minimum of 70 points over three years. More information is
available from the AIB website under CPD & Events.
The local Chapters also provide face to face CPD events which offer member discounts.
5. Keeping you informed
As a building professional you are committed to life-long learning. Your AIB membership is
your passport to local and national publications including the Construct magazine and
fortnightly e-news that keeps you informed of the latest news and trends in the industry.

that could bring extra work to your business or company.

committees can help to bring about the most relevant and state-of-the-art courses possible.
